The site is on the banks of the Ure, bringing with it opportunities for trout and grayling fishing, or just to enjoy time by this softly flowing river. There are many walks from the site, allowing you to take in the attractive countryside views.
Nearby Ripon (8 miles from the site) is home to the National Trust World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. Featuring the magnificent Georgian water gardens, acres of open space and the largest abbey ruins in England, it makes a great day out for outdoor enthusiasts and history fans alike.
The beautiful city of York is just 20 miles away, and offers great days out for all the family. The famous York Minster Cathedral is certainly a sight worth seeing, whilst the Jorvic Viking Centre shows you the way that our ancestors lived 1000 years ago. The York City Sightseeing Bus gives you a good overview of the city’s highlights.
The renowned floral town of Harrogate offers picturesque beauty and graceful buildings. Perhaps the most famous events for this area are the Spring and Autumn Flower Shows- a twice yearly event that draws crowds from across the country. Harrogate also offers some great shopping, with a mixture of designer, independent and high street shops.
The nearby Newby Hall has featured in a number of TV programs and you will understand when you see its majestic architecture and gardens. The Hall and Gardens are open from March until October so can be enjoyed throughout the year.
