Tucked away in a remote corner of Carmarthenshire, the new Lodge development at Rhandirmwyn (pronounced ran-dee-mo-n) is set among some of Wales' most spectacular scenery.
The development includes two bed Lodges, each fully fitted with high quality appliances and fixtures. Most have at least two luxury bathrooms – one being an en suite to the master bedroom – and fully equipped kitchens. The Area
Rhandirmwyn means “Valley of the Minerals” and is an old lead mining area. Here the river crashes through narrow gorges after spilling over the top of the Llyn Brianne dam. In total, four rivers surround the local towns, the Towy, Bran, Gwydderig and Bawddwr. Each gives visitors more beautiful areas to explore.
The area’s mining past is on show at the Dolaucothi Gold Mines, now managed by the National Trust. The mines were in use from Roman times until the 20th Century. Visitors can take a guided tour of the underground workings as well as seeing an exhibition on the mine’s history and its gold.
The local countryside is famed for its wildlife. The RSPB Reserve of Gwenffrwd-Dinas is close by. Red kites, ravens and peregrines can be seen all year round, with pied flycatchers, redstarts, wood warblers and tree pipits visiting in the summer.
Cynghordy Viaduct is a spectacular piece of engineering. The 18-arched stone structure carries the Heart of Wales railway line from Cynghordy’s picturesque station, through the Sugar Loaf Tunnel and on to Shrewsbury. The viaduct is just five miles from Rhandirmwyn.
